What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is
a complementary medicine. It can be used in conjunction with other forms of
health treatments including conventional western treatment.
Homeopathy is a gentle, holistic system of treatment, suitable for everyone,
young and old. It is used to help many conditions.
Homeopathy focuses on the individual, concentrating on treating specific physical and emotional symptoms, to give lasting benefits. Patients are treated as individuals not as a collection of disease labels. Homeopathic remedies are gentle and subtle yet powerful. The therapy is based on the theory of treating like with like. It can be used in treating both chronic and acute complaints. Acute conditions are those illnesses such as coughs, colds, diarrhoea, vomiting, tonsilitis, earache, teething, swine flu etc. These illnesses are self limiting and are of relatively short duration. With the help of homeopathic treatment symptoms can be alleviated, illness times reduced and the need for antibiotics can be avoided. Chronic illness is slower and imply a suppression (emotional or physical ) of some sort. Chronic conditions are generally treated with what is called constitutional treatment. It is possible that with chronic conditions a number of consultations may be needed to see improvement. Examples of chronic conditions are asthma, eczema, rheumatism, migraines, depression or any condition which keeps returning.
Homeopathic remedies are highly diluted natural substances that if given in higher concentrations to a healthy person, would produce symptoms the remedy is prescribed for. In your assessment, as a patient, a homeopath will take into account the range of physical, emotional and lifestyle factors in order to prescribe the most appropriate remedy.
